Karate classes for children are for ages 5 to 15 year olds.

Adult karate classes are for 16 years plus, there is no upper age limit, for further information and guidance please see our frequently asked questions.

Club History

Southport Miyagi Karate School (SMKS) was founded in 1978 by Sensei Pete McDowell, a senior student of Sensei Gary Spiers, 5th Dan Goju Kai and Grand Master Ronnie Colwell.

Club Affiliation

SMKS is affiliated to the English Goju-Ryu Karate Association (EGKA) under Chief Instructor Ernie Molyneux 8th Dan.

EGKA is part of the International Okinawa Goju-ryu Karate Federation headed by the renowned master Shihan Morio Higaonna 10th Dan.
